The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) now asks for a live photograph in the online application for exams like CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD Constable and Selection Post. You capture it through your webcam or through the mobile app shown by a QR code on the Upload Documents page. So for SSC you do not need to resize a photo file. The photo must be a frontal view, without cap and without spectacles, in good light against a plain background.
The signature is still uploaded as a scanned file. As per the SSC CGL 2026 notice, it must be a JPEG/JPG of 10 to 20 KB, and its image dimension should be about 6.0 cm (width) × 2.0 cm (height). Note: one annexure of the same notice mentions about 4.0 cm × 2.0 cm, so the shape is not strict; what the portal checks is the JPG format and the 10–20 KB size. The tool above makes a 6.0 × 2.0 cm signature (709 × 236 px at 300 DPI) and keeps the file inside 10–20 KB.
SSC rejects applications with blurred or miniature signatures, so sign big and clear, and make sure the whole signature fits inside the frame.
How to resize your SSC photo and signature
- Sign on plain white paper with a black (or dark blue) pen, a little bigger than usual.
- Open this page on your phone, tap "Choose signature photo" and take a photo of the signature from straight above in good light.
- The tool finds your signature, crops it to 6.0 × 2.0 cm and makes the paper white. Drag or zoom if you want to adjust.
- Tap "Download JPG". Check the size shown under the button (it will be between 10 and 20 KB) and upload this file in the SSC form.
- For the photo, use the live photo option in the form: sit in good light, plain wall behind you, no cap, no spectacles, look straight at the camera.
Common mistakes that get the form rejected
- Uploading a blurred or tiny ("miniature") signature. SSC says such applications will be rejected.
- File above 20 KB or below 10 KB. Use the tool, it lands inside this window automatically.
- Signature on lined or coloured paper, or with shadows from your phone.
- Wearing spectacles or a cap while capturing the live photo, or taking it in a dark room.
- A different signature style in the form, admit card and exam hall. Sign the same way every time.
